Fighting COVID-19 starts with you.

Life all across the globe has been disrupted. Almost all nations are bearing the brunt of the corona virus invasion which has caught even developed nations by surprise, some finding themselves totally unprepared. While the medical world fights this battle, we can do them a lot of good by doing our bit as a society and that starts with you.

At this time, I observe two things happening:

1.     The spread of the virus itself which is increasing day by day especially in Europe now and penetrating at an alarming rate in other continents as well.

2.     The spread of viral information on social media concerning the same and most of it triggering another kind of panic altogether.

While most people that I know say it is difficult to control both of it at this stage, I am of the opinion that both of them can be controlled or curtailed to some extent through awareness.

I suggest a 3-pronged strategy to fight this COVID invasion

1.     Physical:

a.      Ensure better Hygiene at all times in all places.

b.     Stay indoors as far as possible unless you are attending to urgent needs.

c.      Social distancing is important and a key step in stopping the spread of this virus. So, refrain from social gatherings until such time till the danger is over.

d.     Spend time with family and work on your relationships.

e.      Be available to help others- especially the younger and stronger ones for the older and frail ones

f.      Slow down, eat healthy rest and sleep well.

2.     Mental:

a.      Control your thoughts. We are a product of our thinking. One quick, effective way to counter the fear, pessimism, and brooding despair that so easily overwhelms us in these days is to shift our thoughts to a Big Picture perspective.

b.     Stay Positive- Hope is one thing that we must not lose. Stay hopeful and spread hope around.

c.      Think how best you can make of this time and plan ahead. Filter your news intake. Check which news sources you allow yourself to hear and see. Not all are helpful. Be Concerned-Yes; Fear-No.

3.     Spiritual:

a.      Pray (most of the issues faced by mankind are spiritual battles in the heavenly’s). Not all will understand this and those that will, know what I am talking about. Pray for all those on the front line sacrificing their time and talents for others.

b.     Meditate- Let peace prevail within yourself. Let internal joy be your strength.

c.    Reflect on your life and define new priorities. Try to pursue selflessness and compassion rather than selfishness and self-centeredness.

d.     Be thankful and express gratitude for all the good that has happened to you in your life.

We are all affected. We can all do our bit to make things better in these difficult times by being responsible and showing responsibility towards others.

Remember the win over anything is always within us. Stay safe and be well.
